Italian Ceremony

We had a good night sleeping "alpine style". That means a triple bunk, with six of us on one level stacked like wood! :). Because we got to bed by 9:30, we were able to get caught up a little on our sleep.
After breakfast, we hiked 45 minutes above the refuge towards the glacier, but not to it, to visit some of the pieces of the wreckage.
After our return, we had the ceremony. It was long but moving. Probably quite boring to the kids, but I think that some of the gravity of the situation hit them.
Anne Cobb spoke as did many others. They presented a plaque on a rock, and also presented us with one of Hudson Upham's dog tags.
That's when I got a little emotional.
The USAF was here with honor guard, combat camera crew, public affairs, and the commander of the 15th airlift squadron, the ancestor of the B-17's unit.
Also present were the American consulate in Italy, the men who first found the wreck in 75, the mayor, a priest, and. Many others.
